HILLIER NAMED SECOND TEAM ALL-AMERICAN

5/30/2006 3:40:00 PM

Hofstra University junior attacker Kimberly Hillier (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) today was named a 2006 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA)/US Lacrosse All-American, as she earned second team honors after helping lead Hofstra to an 11-win season and its second consecutive appearance in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) title game.

Hillier earns second team accolades after an all-around solid season that saw her lead the Pride in points (73), assists (25) and draw controls (49).  Hillier also ranked second on the team in goals (48) and third on the squad in ground balls (36) and caused turnovers (17).  Hillier's 73 points this season tied Kathleen McPike's single season record set in 2001.  Hillier played a huge role in Hofstra's late season surge as she has totaled 24 goals and 15 assists during the eight-game win streak.  Currently in the midst of a 35-game scoring streak dating back to the first game of her sophomore campaign, Hillier was seventh in the CAA in goals per game (2.67), second in assists per game (1.39), fourth in points per game (4.06), seventh in shots per game (6.56) and third in draw controls per game (2.72).  Nationally speaking, Hillier is 21st in points per game, 37th in goals per game, 29th in assists per game and 20th in draw controls per game.  This marks Hillier's first-ever national All-American award after being an all-region pick following all three of her collegiate seasons.

This marks the fourth straight year and the fifth time in the last sixth years that the Hofstra Women's Lacrosse program has had a player named as an All-American.  In addition, Hillier becomes just the sixth player in Hofstra Lacrosse history to earn All-American status.

The IWLCA and US Lacrosse have honored 48 student-athletes in Division I with a selection on one of the All-American teams. The IWLCA and US Lacrosse will honor the National All-Americans at an awards banquet on June 10, 2006 in Baltimore, MD.  The IWLCA (Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association) was founded on the principle of developing among intercollegiate coaches a deep sense of responsibility in teaching, promotion, and maintaining the growth of women's lacrosse in accordance with the highest ideals of fair play. It is a body committed to being an integral part of the growth and direction of our collegiate sport.

US Lacrosse, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is the national governing body for men's and women's lacrosse.
