Hofstra University junior midfielder Becky Thorn (Holbrook, NY) was named Inside Lacrosse's Player of the Week today after Thorn helped lead the Pride to two victories last week.
After beginning the week with two goals, one assist, two ground balls, two draw controls and two caused turnovers in the 17-4 win over Drexel, Thorn came through with another huge performance in the Pride's 9-8 victory over #9 Loyola. Thorn tied for game-high honors with three goals, while posting a game-high nine draw controls in the game. In addition, she scored the game-winner with 12 seconds left in the contest against the Greyhounds. Thorn currently leads the Pride in goals (6) and draw controls (12), while ranking third on the team in points (7) and ground balls (7).
The win over Loyola was Hofstra's highest ranked victory since defeating #9 Yale, 12-11, in the 2002 season finale.
The Pride, currently at 3-0 on the season, is off to its best start since beginning the 1985 campaign 4-0 under then-coach Lynn Kotler.
Hofstra returns to action on Saturday when they host Cornell University at 1 p.m.
