COACH DE ANGELIS RECORDS 100TH CAREER WIN

10/2/2005 12:00:00 PM

Head Coach Kathy De Angelis (pictured) recorded her 100th career victory as a collegiate head field hockey coach as the Pride powered past the Drexel University Dragons, 4-1, at Shuart Stadium in Hempstead, NY.

De Angelis now has 60 victories as the head coach of the Hofstra Pride.

De Angelis began her collegiate coaching career as an assistant coach at the University of Massachusetts, where she was a three-time All-American as a player.  She became head field hockey coach at La Salle University in 1992, moving on to Southwest Missouri State in 1996 before coming to Hofstra in 1998.

Now in her eighth year as the head field hockey coach at Hofstra, she has led the Pride to four consecutive winning seasons (2001-04) for the first time since 1984 to 1987.

With the win, Hofstra improves its record to 8-3 overall, 2-1 in the CAA, while Drexel falls to 7-5 overall and 1-2 in the CAA.

Sophomore forward Pemba Ramdoo scored the Pride's first goal from 10-yards out off a beautiful pass from freshman forward Charlia Warner.  The goal was Ramdoo's team-best eighth of the year, while  Warner recorded her first assist of the season.

The Pride continued to find holes in the Drexel defense and was able to push another goal through at the 25 minute mark when Warner scored her third of the season with an assist from sophomore defender Shannon Alexander.  The Pride wasn't finished as junior midfielder Leslie DeSimone scored her third goal of the season off a pass from Ramdoo (3) and a stick stop by junior defender Sekayi Liburd (3).

Despite a goal on a penalty corner by the Dragons, the Pride dominated the game, capping it off with a goal by junior midfielder Doni-Melissa Jantzen on a penalty stroke near the end of the second half.  Jantzen now has three goals on the year.

The Pride outshot Drexel, 10-5.  Hofstra also led in penalty corners, 8-5.  The Pride is back in action this Friday, October 7, when they take on the Tigers of Princeton University at 7 p.m. in Princeton, NJ.  The Pride return to conference action on Sunday, October 9 against the Towson University Tigers at 1 p.m. in Towson, MD.
