WSOC: Tarik Wins Trio Of Awards

9/13/2010 6:47:00 PM

Hempstead, NY - Senior forward Salma Tarik (Bellmore, N.Y./Rosamond (Calif.)) was named the Colonial Athletic Association Women's Soccer Co-Player of the Week, earned the Women's Player of the Week honor from Big Apple Soccer, and was named to the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week, it was announced today.

Tarik earned the trio of awards after helping Hofstra sweep two Big 10 foes on its weekend road trip. She had two second-half goals five minutes apart in Hofstra's 3-1 win over Purdue on Friday, then scored a second half goal in the Pride's 3-1 win over Indiana on Sunday. The wins improved Hofstra's record to 4-1 on the season, with the only loss coming to current No. 5 Boston College on August 27.

Tarik's offensive explosion increased her career goal total to 24, including 21 in her three seasons at Hofstra after scoring three times as a freshman at Cal State Northridge. She is one of only six players in school history to score 20 goals in a Hofstra uniform, and is currently one goal shy of moving into a tie for fifth on the Pride's all-time list.

For the year, Tarik has a team-best five goals through five goals after scoring 10 goals as a junior last year. She has twice tallied two-goal games this year, including a two-goal effort in a 3-1 win over Rhode Island on Sept. 3, when she scored her two goals in a span of 3:30.

The Big Apple Soccer Player of the Week honor is given to the top player in the Metropolitan New York area, while the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week consists of 11 Division I players from around the country.

Tarik and the Pride will next be in action when they travel to Columbia on Friday for a 7 p.m. contest, before returning home to face Princeton on Sunday at 1 p.m.
