Academic Advising
Academic advisors are assigned to each team. Advisors meet with all first-year and transfer students on a weekly basis. Advisors are also available to and meet frequently with all other returning student-athletes. Meetings with a team’s academic advisor includes:
- Academic scheduling and planning,
- Monitoring of continued eligibility and progress towards degree,
- Mid-term reports from instructors,
- Monitoring of attendance and in-class behavior,
- Explanation of university academic policies and deadlines, and
- Personalized study plans designed for the student-athlete’s specific workload.
Student-athlete advising meetings are to ensure student-athletes are taking proactive measures with schoolwork, managing their time successfully, and meeting NCAA academic standards. These meetings also provide students with learning, studying, and testing skills to help them succeed in the classroom. Hofstra’s athletic department puts a strong emphasis on the importance of academics and the university is proud to have many Academic All-American student-athletes.
