Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra field hockey team suffered a 4-0 defeat home in CAA competition to #19 Monmouth on Friday from Cindy Lewis Stadium. Hofstra is now 2-6 overall and 0-2 in league play following the defeat, and the Hawks improve to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference.
After both teams went scoreless in a first quarter that saw Hofstra outshoot Monmouth 3-2, Monmouth scored twice in the span of three minutes in the second quarter to jump out to a 2-0 lead. The Hawks added another two goals in the third quarter and held the Pride to just two shots in the entire second half to wrap up the win.
Luci Hollister recorded seven saves in 44:46, while
Madison Geiger played the remaining 15:14 and tallied three stops in her first collegiate action.
Anna Moors led Monmouth with two goals in the win, followed by Milla Frye and Stella Goddard-Despot, while Luisa Schlueter and Lauren Relik both assisted twice. Charlie Bowman and Djoeke van Helsdingen played one half each on Friday for the Hawks.
Hofstra returns to action at home on Sunday against Yale at 3 p.m.
