Schulz's Brace Leads Hofstra Past Loyola Maryland

Baltimore, MD - Ben Schulz scored his first two career goals in the first half and the Hofstra defense held Loyola without a shot on goal for the entire contest in a 2-0 Pride victory Tuesday night at the Ridley Athletic Complex. The win was Hofstra's second in a row and was its second consecutive shutout.

The Pride moved to 6-1-2 on the season with the win, while Loyola dropped to 1-7-1.

Schulz opened the scoring at 17:48 after Axel Ruben sent a cross into the box. The Loyola defense attempted to clear the ball, but it went right to Schulz outside of the six-yard box and the freshman forward from Germany put it in the right corner for the 1-0 lead. Just about 13 minutes later, Schulz struck again as he finished a pass from Jordan Hoey. Ruben also got an assist on the goal as he started the play with a pass to Hoey.

The Pride allowed eight shots to the Greyhounds, but none were on target as keeper Milo Risenhoover was not tested in notching his fourth shutout of the season.

Loyola keeper Connor O'Keefe made one save.

Hofstra returns home Saturday for a CAA clash against Northeastern. Kickoff at Captains Field is 7 p.m.
