Philadelphia, PA – Despite leading Temple twice on Sunday, the Hofstra field hockey team surrendered two goals in the fourth quarter en route to a 4-2 defeat to the Owls. Hofstra drops to 2-5 and Temple moves to 5-3 with today's result.
On Hofstra's first penalty corner of the day,
Gwenn van Dijk got her stick onto a shot by
Caitlin Lozano to redirect the ball into the net for the opening goal 2:19 into the contest. The lead would hold all the way until a minute into the third quarter, when Temple tied the game at 1-1 on a penalty corner of their own. Four minutes after Temple's tying goal,
Sarah Smalley put the Pride back ahead with her fifth goal of the season after she redirected a shot on frame by
Clara Cañas, but Hofstra's lead was short-lived as Temple evened the score at 2-2 seconds later. The Owls scored twice in the fourth quarter to secure the win.
Malena Bertone assisted twice against Temple to tie with Lozano and Smalley for the team-lead of two points on the day. In goal,
Luci Hollister recorded two saves.
Hofstra returns to Cindy Lewis Stadium for the first of two consecutive home games, beginning on Friday at 3 p.m. against Monmouth.

-This was the third multi-point game of the season for Bertone.
-Temple outshot Hofstra 15-7. Smalley led the Pride with three shots.
