Constanza Perez Sain led all players with 12 kills as the Hofstra volleyball team easily dispatched of Hampton in three sets on Friday evening at the David S. Mack Physical Education Center. The match was the CAA opener for both squads.
Nil Kayaalp had 16 digs to lead all players in the contest.
With the win, Hofstra improved to 6-3 and 1-0, while Hampton dropped to 2-8 and 0-1 with the loss. Set scores were 25-16, 25-14, and 25-23. The Pride has won its opening CAA contest in five of the last six seasons.
The Pride was on fire offensively in the first two sets, hitting at a .344 clip in the opening stanza before tallying a .407 attack percentage in the second set. The Pride rallied late in the third set to take the match and start conference play with a victory.
Sonja Rundcrantz posted a season-high 36 assists for the Pride and also added nine digs.
Stella Becker chipped in with six kills, including four in the second set.
Katerina Pappa had seven kills and five digs for Hampton, which also got 19 assists and six digs from Ana Luiza Matos.
Hofstra and Hampton will conclude the two-match series on Saturday at 1 p.m.
NOTES
- Hofstra moved to a perfect 7-0 all-time against Hampton. All seven matches have occurred since 2022 and the Pride has won five consecutive matches in sweeps.
- Perez Sain reached double figures in kills for the fifth time this season.
- Kayaalp reached double figures in digs for the seventh time this season.
