No. 15 Hofstra Ties Monmouth

West Long Branch, NJ - No. 15 Hofstra scored early in the first half, but Monmouth answered with a first-half goal of its own as the Pride and Hawks battled to a 1-1 tie in a CAA clash Saturday night at Hesse Field on the Great Lawn.

The Pride moved to 4-0-2 overall and 1-0-2 in league play with the draw. Monmouth is 1-3-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the CAA.

Hofstra opened the scoring at 5:18 when Bastian Carlman put in the rebound of a Lewis Matton header that caromed off the post. It was Carlman's team-best fourth goal of the season.

The Hawks answered at 18:00 on Brady Orendac's goal that came off a free kick into the box by Eric Palei. The kick went to Jasen Bottini, who passed to Orendac. The freshman midfielder turned and fired a shot into the left corner to knot the score at one.

Neither team could score again as both defenses tightened. The Pride managed just one shot on goal in the second half and three total in the contest. The Hawks lone shot on goal was the equalizer as the Pride did not allow another scoring chance.

Hofstra returns home Tuesday night for a battle with No. 13 Vermont at Captains Field. Game time is 7 p.m. with the contest airing on MSG Network and streaming on FloCollege and Amazon Prime Video.
