University Park, PA - The Hofstra volleyball team split a pair of matches on the final day of the Penn State Invitational as the Pride opened Sunday with a sweep of Connecticut before closing play with a three-set loss to #10 Penn State in the nightcap at Rec Hall.
Beatriz Braga and
Constanza Perez Sain were named to the all-tournament team for their efforts.
Hofstra finished the tournament with a 2-1 record as the Pride opened the season with a four-set win over High Point on Saturday.
In the match against the Huskies, the Pride won by scores of 25-23, 25-11, and 25-14. Against the Nittany Lions, Hofstra fell in set scores of 20-25, 9-25, and 23-25.
Braga posted a match-high 14 kills and added 10 digs against Connecticut to start the day.
Ellie Pamatat posted a double-double as well with 17 assists and 12 digs for the Pride. Perez Sain chipped in with seven kills and six blocks.
Against Penn State, Hofstra had a trio of players with at least seven kills as Braga and Perez Sain each tallied eight and
Maria Afonso added seven.
Lauren Konzen led the Pride with nine digs, while Pamatat posted 13 assists in the match.
Hofstra will head to the Yale Invitational this upcoming weekend and take on Yale on Friday before facing Santa Clara and Manhattan on Saturday.
NOTES
- Hofstra moved to 9-1 all-time against Connecticut and 0-9 against Penn State. It was the first meeting with the Huskies since a four-set win in 2023 and was the first meeting versus the Nittany Lions since 2019.
- The match against PSU was the Pride's first against a ranked opponent since actually facing then-#8 Penn State on August 30, 2019.
- The three-set loss was the Pride's first loss in straight sets since September 20, 2024 against Stony Brook.
- Pamatat has reached double figures in assists in seven consecutive matches dating back to last season.
