Hofstra Falls To Monmouth On Senior Day

Hempstead, NY - Hofstra erased an 8-0 deficit with a nine-run fourth inning, but Monmouth scored 10 more times to post an 18-10 win over the Pride Sunday at University Field in the home finale. The victory gave the Hawks the CAA series win. 

Daniel Escalante and Tyler Cox each had three hits and two RBIs for the Pride with Cox blasting his sixth home run of the season. Michael Brown and Tyler Castrataro also had two RBI days for Hofstra.

Trailing 8-0 in the fourth, the Pride sent 14 batters to the plate and scored nine times. Cox had a two-run home run, Escalante and Castrataro added two-run singles, Michael Brown drove in a run with a ground out, and Nick Biddle walked with the bases loaded. Hofstra also scored on a throwing error. 

Monmouth wasted no time in taking the lead back, scoring four times in the top of the fifth. The Hawks loaded the bases with no outs before RJ Mustaro knocked in two with a double. Aidan Brethschneider drove in the third run with an infield single, while the fourth scored on a passed ball. 

Brown had an RBI single for the Pride in the sixth, but Monmouth added six more runs over the final three innings.

Hofstra dropped to 18-26 overall and 12-15 in the CAA with the loss. Monmouth is 27-20 overall and 18-9 in league play. 

Reliever Drew Yagodzinskie (2-3) was credited with the win after throwing a scoreless inning. Mustaro drove in four runs for the Hawks, while Colin Richter was 4-4 with three RBIs and finished a triple shy of hitting for the cycle. 

Chris Bedford (0-6) took the loss for the Pride as he gave up four runs (three earned) without recording an out. 

Hofstra returns to action Tuesday at Fordham with a 6 p.m. start time.

-The teams combined for 32 hits, 17 walks, and two hit batters. 
-Hofstra left 16 runners on base.
-Every Hofstra batter had at least one hit.

-Hofstra celebrated its senior class before the game, recognizing Jackson Bauer, Danny Corona, Tyler Cox, JJ DeVito, Michael Heyman, Russell Hunter, and Carlos Martinez.
