The Hofstra men's basketball program has received eight invitations to the NCAA Basketball Championships. Four came while Hofstra played on the Division II level in the 1960s, while the last four have come at the Division I level. Two of the Division I appearances came during the 1970s as a member of the East Coast Conference, while the 2000 and 2001 appearances occurred when Hofstra was a member of the America East Conference. In all, the Pride has played 13 NCAA Tournament games in their history and has posted a 5-8 record. Hofstra did win the CAA title in 2020 to qualify for the NCAA Tournament, but the tournament was canceled due to COVID-19.
Monmouth moved to 19-14 on the year with a 74-64 win over Campbell in the semifinals. Kavion McClain led the Hawks with 19 points, while Jason Rivera-Torres tallied 17 points and seven rebounds. Monmouth enters Tuesday having won five consecutive games.
Tuesday is the 20th all-time meeting between Hofstra and Monmouth. The Pride leads the series, 10-9, and has won nine of the last 12 meetings. Hofstra won both regular season meetings as the Pride captured a 67-64 overtime win in Hempstead on January 10 and followed that up with a 73-57 victory in West Long Branch on January 31.
