Hofstra Makes CAA History as Davis and Edmead Capture Top Honors

3/6/2026 10:00:00 AM

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra men's basketball program's commitment to elite player development, under the direction of Head Coach Speedy Claxton and his staff, was front and center once again as Cruz Davis was named Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Player of the Year, and Preston Edmead secured CAA Rookie of the Year honors. Hofstra is the first school in CAA history, since 1983, to earn the conference's Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year accolades in the same season.

Davis, a junior from Plano, Texas, also earned first-team All-CAA honors and was named CAA Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and Edmead was named to the second-team All-CAA squad and the CAA All-Rookie Team. Joshua DeCady earned a spot on the CAA All-Defensive Team.

These accolades add to one of the most impressive stretches in conference history. Hofstra has now captured four of the last five, six of the last nine, seven of the last 11, and nine of the last 17 CAA Player of the Year awards, a run that underscores the Pride's sustained success in the conference.

Davis joins a list of Hofstra CAA Player of the Year honorees that includes Tyler Thomas (2024), Aaron Estrada (2023, 2022), Justin Wright-Foreman (2019, 2018), Juan'ya Green (2016), Charles Jenkins (2011, 2010), and Loren Stokes (2007).

Edmead, a freshman from Deer Park, New York, is Hofstra's first CAA Rookie of the Year since Charles Jenkins in 2008 and the program's fourth since joining the conference, following Antoine Agudio (2005) and Kenny Adeleke (2002).

The league's leading scorer and one of its top playmakers, Davis is averaging 20.3 points, 4.6 assists, and 3.8 rebounds per game. He has scored in double figures 28 times this season and reached the 20-point mark on 17 occasions. Davis earned multiple honors during the regular season, including three CAA Player of the Week awards, three Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association Player of the Week honors, USBWA Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week recognition on Dec. 9, and USBWA Oscar Robertson National Mid-Major Player of the Month for December. Davis is one of 11 players nationally averaging at least 20 points and four assists per game.

Davis, a liberal arts major who plans to attend law school, carries a 3.63 grade point average. He has earned numerous academic honors, including CSC Academic All-District recognition and NABC Honors Court distinction, and is a member of the Hofstra Athletic Directors Scholars and CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll.

One of the nation's top freshmen, Edmead is averaging 15.4 points and 4.6 assists per game. He earned CAA Rookie of the Week honors seven times, one shy of the league record of eight. Edmead has scored in double figures 25 times this season and is one of 11 freshmen nationally averaging at least 15 points and four assists per game. He elevated his play during CAA competition, averaging 16.5 points per game in league action.

DeCady, a sophomore from Queens Village, New York, started 19 of the 29 games in which he appeared this season and averaged 6.4 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. His defensive presence and physical style of play were key factors in Hofstra's success.

Hofstra finished the regular season 21-10 overall and 12-6 in CAA play, earning the No. 3 seed in the CAA Championship. The Pride will take the court Sunday, March 8, 2026, at 8:30 p.m. against the winner of the William & Mary–Elon contest. The entire five-day tournament is being played at the CareFirst Arena in Washington, D.C.
