Seton Hall Gets Past Hofstra In Series Opener

South Orange, NJ - Frankie Scrivanic's RBI single in the bottom of the eighth gave Seton Hall a 5-4 victory over Hofstra in the first game of a three-game series at Mike Sheppard, Sr. Stadium at Owen T. Carroll Field Friday. Hofstra had rallied to take a 4-3 lead in the seventh before the Pirates scored single runs in their next two turns at bat.

Tyler Cox went 1-3 with three RBIs for the Pride. He had a sacrifice fly in the third and a two-run double in the seventh that put Hofstra ahead. JJ DeVito was 2-3 with an RBI, while Tyler Castrataro went 3-4 with a double and a run scored. 

Jackson Bauer (0-1) took the loss for the Pride, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits over 2 ⅔ innings. Carlos Martinez started the game and went five innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits with five strikeouts. 

Ryan Reich (1-1) pitched a scoreless eighth inning to get the win and John Higgins struck out two in the ninth for his sixth save. Scrivanic had two hits for Seton Hall.

The teams will play game two of the series Saturday at 1 p.m.
