Hofstra Picks Up Road Win At Fairfield

Fairfield, CT - Michael Craig's two-run single in the top of the sixth inning snapped a 2-2 tie and the Pride bullpen made it stick as Hofstra picked up a 5-3 win Wednesday at Don and Chris Cook Field. Craig finished 2-4 with two RBIs and a run scored, while relievers Brayden Gregg, Maddon McArthur, and Tanner Sanderoff combined to throw five innings of one-run relief.

Hofstra improved to 5-10 on the season with its second consecutive win. The Stags slipped to 6-10 and saw their five-game winning streak snapped.

Fairfield scored twice in the top of the first as JP Kuczik singled home a run and Connor Scanlan drew a bases loaded walk. Hofstra cut the deficit in half in the top of the fourth inning on a leadoff home run from Tyler Cox and then drew even in the fifth on an RBI double from JJ DeVito.

The Pride surged ahead in the sixth as Nick Gallello singled and Gabriel Melara was hit by a pitch to start the inning. Following a groundout that moved the runners and a lineout, Craig hit an opposite field single to left that drove in both runners. Hofstra tacked on another run in the eighth on Nick Biddle's RBI double that plated Melara. Fairfield's Jake Haarde homered in the bottom of the eighth to make it a 2-run game but Sanderoff came on and threw a scoreless ninth for his first save.

Gregg (1-0) picked up the win after throwing 2 ⅔ hitless innings, walking one and striking out one. McArthur allowed a run and two hits over 1 ⅓ innings before Sanderoff closed it out. Hofstra starter Sean Hamilton went the first four innings, allowing two runs on five hits.

Alex Frank (1-2), Fairfield's fourth pitcher, took the loss after allowing two runs in an inning of work. Luke Nomura had two hits for the Stags.

Hofstra returns to action Friday in the start of a three-game series at Seton Hall.
