Cruz Davis had 20 points,
Biggie Patterson had 12 points and 11 rebounds, and
Silas Sunday added 12 points and six rebounds to lead the Hofstra men's basketball team to a 79-43 victory over Hampton on Thursday evening at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex.
Preston Edmead nearly had a double-double with nine points and nine assists.
Hofstra won for the fifth time in its last six games to improve to 18-10 overall and 9-6 in CAA play. Hampton dropped to 12-15 and 6-8.
The Pride made quick work of the Pirates as after Hampton took an early 4-2 lead, Hofstra used a 14-2 run to open up a 16-6 advantage following a basket from Edmead. A three-pointer from Davis at the 5:23 mark would give Hofstra a 27-10 lead, its largest of the opening stanza and the Pride would take a 13-point lead into the break.
Hampton closed the gap to eight in the opening minutes of the second half before Hofstra clamped down. With the score 39-31 in favor of the Pride, Hofstra would use a 16-3 run to take its first 20-point lead at 55-34 with 10:27 left. A Patterson bucket with under three minutes remaining would make it 73-43 and the Pride would settle in for a 36-point victory.
Victory Onuetu added six rebounds and four points, while
German Plotnikov added nine points, two rebounds, two steals, and two blocks.
Etienne Strothers led Hampton with 12 points and five assists, while Xzavier Long had six points and six rebounds for the Pirates.
Hofstra is back in action on Saturday when it travels to Northeastern for a 2 p.m. contest. That game will air on FloCollege.
NOTES
- Tonight was the sixth all-time meeting between Hofstra and Hampton. The Pride leads the all-time meetings, 5-1, in a series that began during the 2022-23 campaign.
- The double-double was the third this season for Patterson.
- Davis reached the 20-point plateau for the 16th time this season and 25th time in his Pride career.
- Davis was in double figures in scoring for the 27th time this season, Sunday for the fifth time, and Patterson for the 12th time.
