Spagnoli Claims Metropolitan Championship 5K Title; Successful Day in Staten Island for Pride

Staten Island, NY - Isabella Spagnoli claimed the individual title in the women's 5000m run with her time of 17:44.29, while the Hofstra women's indoor track and field team had a successful day at the 2026 Metropolitan Championship at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Friday.

Spagnoli led the team in the 5000m race with her first place finish, while Hannah Donzella was fifth at 18:48.10, Sophia Briggs was sixth at 19:00.14, Allison Reid was seventh at 19:04.45, Avery Brawner was 11th at 19:58.61, and Melanie Bogen finished 15th at 21:06.30. 

Sharyn-Nicole Thomas recorded a throw of 10.36m to place 13th in the shot put event, while Sarah Purschke finished in 23rd following a throw of 8.58m. In the 4x800m relay, Brielle Isernia, Julia Mills, Eva Mathew, and Tori Bien came in 3rd place with a time of 10:56.52. Bien led the team in the 800m run with her 12th place finish and time of 2:32.12, while Isernia was 15th at 2:35.94, and Jordan Slovensky finished with a time of 2:46.35 in 19th place. Mills came in 7th in the 1000m run with a time of 3:19.10, Mathew was in 10th place with a time of 3:37.70. Lilian Brine finished the 60m dash preliminaries in 26th place with a time of 8.49 and Amanda Hinojos recorded a time of 6:23.84 to finish 17th in the mile race. 

As a team, the Pride finished in 8th place with 27 points. Conference opponent Monmouth took the team title with 180.50 points, while St. John's finished second and Fordham in third. 

The Hofstra women's indoor track & field team will return to action on Friday, February 6, to compete at the Fastrack National Invitational at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, New York.
