Pride Stays Hot, Tops Drexel For Sixth Consecutive Win

Philadelphia, PA - Cruz Davis led all players with 20 points and added six rebounds and five assists to lead the Hofstra men's basketball team to a 70-67 road win over Drexel on Saturday afternoon at the Daskalakis Athletic Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The win was Hofstra's sixth consecutive victory. It is the Pride's longest win streak since a 12-game streak during the 2022-23 campaign.

Preston Edmead added 16 points and six rebounds before fouling out.

Hofstra improved to 11-4 overall and 2-0 in CAA play with the win. Drexel dropped to 6-10 and 0-3.

Hofstra raced out to a 15-point halftime lead as the Pride used an early 16-6 run to open up a 21-11 lead following a three-pointer from Biggie Patterson. Six straight from Hofstra later in the half would give the visitors their largest lead of the game, 35-19, with 4:50 left before intermission after a bucket from Jaeden Roberts. The Pride scored the final five points of the half, including a basket from Silas Sunday, to take the 40-25 lead into the locker room.

It was all Drexel to start the second half, though, and the Dragons used a 17-4 run to close the gap to 44-42 at the 12:10 mark. Hofstra was able to withstand that rally and would push the lead back up to 13, 64-51, with five minutes to play in regulation after a pair of free throws from Davis.

Hofstra held a 10-point advantage with just under two minutes left in the second stanza before the Dragons attempted a furious rally. Drexel was able to get within 68-67 but A.J. Wills came up big late and the defense on the possession was tremendous and allowed the Pride to escape with the victory.

Sunday added eight points, five rebounds, and two assists for Hofstra, while Victory Onuetu chipped in with six points and six rebounds. German Plotnikov had eight points, while Wills came off the bench and provided a huge spark with five points that included a clutch three-pointer and a pair of late free throws.

Shane Blakeney led Drexel with 18 points, while Eli Beard added 12 points for the Dragons.

Hofstra returns to action on Thursday when it travels to Towson for a rare 12:30 p.m. tip.
