Hempstead, NY - Cassidy Geddes scored a game-high 22 points to lead William & Mary to a 55-37 CAA victory over Hofstra Monday afternoon at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex. Alarice Gooden led Hofstra with eight points.
The Pride slipped to 3-16 overall and 1-7 in the CAA with the loss. The Tribe, the defending CAA champions, moved to 10-8 overall and 3-4 in league play with their second consecutive win.
Hofstra scored the first four points of the contest on baskets from Ema Karim and Sandra Magolico before the Tribe scored nine straight points to take the lead for good. William & Mary would lead, 15-6 at the end of the first 10 minutes behind seven points from Geddes.
The Tribe lead grew to 11 points early in the second quarter before a 10-2 run from Hofstra made it a three-point game, 19-16, with 5:05 remaining. Gooden and Deivejon Harris each scored four points in the spurt. William & Mary would close the quarter with a 5-0 run to take a 24-16 lead into halftime.
William & Mary would open the third quarter with an 8-2 run to take a 32-18 lead and Hofstra would not get the deficit under 10 the rest of the way.
Hofstra returns to action on Friday, January 30, at Stony Brook. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:31 p.m.
Notes:
-Hofstra is 32-23-1 all-time against William & Mary.
-Magolico had a game-high 11 rebounds, her eighth game with 10 or more.
-Karim finished with seven points and six rebounds.
-William & Mary's Alex Mikesa was the only other player to score double-figures with 10 points.
-The game was closed to spectators due to travel conditions caused by the winter storm that hit Long Island over the weekend.
