Cruz Davis captured the CAA Player of the Week Award, while freshman guard
Preston Edmead earned CAA Rookie of the Week honors, it was announced by the conference office this afternoon.
It is the third CAA Player of the Week award for Davis and it is the sixth CAA Rookie of the Week Award for Edmead. The six CAA rookie awards this season for Edmead ranks as the third-most in a single season in CAA history.
It was another remarkable week for Davis, as he was incredible in leading the Pride to a pair of CAA wins to extend the win streak to eight consecutive games.
Davis averaged 25.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2.0 steals per game. Davis poured in 32 points and added six rebounds, two assists, and two steals in Thursday's win over preseason CAA favorite Towson. He was huge in the first half as he scored 21 of his points in the opening 20 minutes to be the key to the halftime advantage on the road. Davis hit three three-pointers in the game and was 13-14 from the free throw line against the Tigers. On Saturday, he once again was the answer as he scored 16 of his 19 points after intermission as Hofstra overcame a five-point halftime deficit to capture the overtime victory over Monmouth. He hit three three-pointers and was a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line, while also adding six rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Davis has scored in double figures in all 17 games this season, has 20 or more points in five of the last six games, and Thursday marked his second 30-point game of the season (36 at Pitt). Davis played all 85 minutes in the two games and has played 39 or more minutes in six consecutive games. Davis shared the honor with DJ Smith of Campbell.
Edmead had another strong week in helping the Pride to the conference victories. Edmead averaged 21.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game over the two contests. On Thursday, in the road win at Towson, he had 18 points, a career-high seven rebounds, and two assists. Edmead hit three three-pointers against the Tigers. He followed that up with an outstanding performance on Saturday at home against Monmouth. Against the Hawks, he poured in a career-high 24 points and added six rebounds and two assists. He made a living at the free throw line, hitting 13-15 from the charity stripe. Edmead was incredible after halftime, scoring 16 of his 24 points after the break to help the Pride to the come-from-behind victory. Edmead has scored in double figures 14 times this season. He played 84 out of a possible 85 minutes in the two games.
