Braga Powers Hofstra to Five-Set Comeback Victory Over Army West Point

West Point, NY - Beatriz Braga posted 15 kills, eight digs, and three blocks to lead the Hofstra volleyball team to a thrilling five-set, come-from-behind victory over Army West Point on Friday evening at Gillis Field House. 

The Pride had a total of three players in double figures in kills as Izadora Stedile added 12 and Constanza Perez Sain chipped in with 10 and also had a trio of service aces. 

The win moved Hofstra to 2-0 on the season, while Army West Point saw its record fall to 2-2. Set scores were 25-23, 18-25, 19-25, 25-19, and 15-5. 

Stedile added a match-high 19 digs, while Perez Sain had 10 in the match. 

Down two sets to one, Hofstra got its offense flowing in the fourth and fifth sets as the Pride totaled 26 kills on 62 attempts with just five attack errors. In the fifth set, Hofstra committed no attack errors on 20 attempts with nine kills for a .450 hitting percentage. 

Nil Kayaalp had 13 digs for the Pride in the match, while Julia Amorim tallied a team-best six blocks. Nina Jioshvili-Ravva had 31 assists, nine digs, and three blocks. 

Mackenzie Lynch had 15 kills and 17 digs for Army West Point, which also got 32 assists, 12 digs, and six blocks from Juliette Myrick. 

Hofstra has a pair of matches on the schedule on Saturday. The Pride will face Rider at 10 a.m. before closing play at the tournament with a 6 p.m. match against Binghamton. 

NOTES
- Hofstra is 8-3 all-time against Army West Point. It marks the second consecutive season Hofstra has earned a five-set win over Army West Point. 
- Hofstra is 2-0 for the third consecutive season. 
- The double-doubles by Stedile and Perez Sain were the first this season for Hofstra. 
- Hofstra has won two straight five-set matches and four of its last six matches that have gone the distance.
