Gallello Hits First Home Run; Charleston Pulls Away In Late Innings Once Again

Mt. Pleasant, SC - For the second game in a row, the College of Charleston used a late inning rally to pull away from Hofstra. Today it was a four-run seventh inning that snapped a 2-2 tie in the Cougars 6-2 victory. Nick Gallello had two hits, including his first career home run, while Dylan Palmer had three hits for the Pride.

Hofstra slipped to 17-36 overall and 7-19 in the Coastal Athletic Association with the loss. Charleston is 34-19 and 15-11 in league play.

The Cougars took a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning as Avery Neaves led off with a single and came around to score on a double by Tyler Sorrentino. Later in the inning, Sorrentino would come home on a wild pitch.

The Pride cut the deficit in half in the fifth as Gallello and Dom Camera started the inning with back-to-back singles. A sacrifice bunt from Nick Biddle moved the runners to second and third and Palmer followed with a high chopper to the pitcher, whose only play was at home. But Gallello beat the throw on the infield single. Gallello tied the score in the seventh with a 400-foot blast to right center.

However, the lead was short-lived as the Cougars surged ahead with four runs in the bottom of the frame. Consecutive doubles from Ethan Plyler, Landon Penfield, and Dylan Johnson resulted in two runs. Two more runs scored later in the inning due to a Hofstra error.

Sean Hamilton (1-5) took the loss for Hofstra, allowing three runs on eight hits over 6-plus innings. Aidan Hunter (7-3) earned the win in relief, allowing a run on four hits over two innings.

Palmer finished the day 3-4 with a triple and an RBI. Gallello was 2-4 with two runs scored. Pyler, Penfield, Johnson, and Alex LaCoste each had two hits for Charleston.

The teams conclude the series Saturday with a 12 p.m. start. The game will be Hofstra's season finale.

Notes:
-Gallello and Palmer each have eight game hitting streaks.
-Palmer stole his 31st base of the season to tie Shaun Riley (1993) for third on the single season list.
