Lane, Camera, and Palmer Pace Hofstra Offense In Loss At Connecticut

Storrs, CT - Sean Lane hits his sixth home run of the season for Hofstra, and Dom Camera and Dyland Palmer had a pair of hits in the Pride' 12-4 loss to Connecticut Wednesday afternoon at Elliot Ballpark. Sam Biller had two hits, including a double, and three RBIs for the Huskies.

Hofstra dropped to 12-21 on the season with the loss. Connecticut improved to 14-17 with the win.

Run-scoring singles from Ryan Daniels and Tyler Minick in the first inning gave the Huskies a 2-0 lead. The Pride took advantage of two Connecticut errors in the third to score a run, but the Huskies responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 5-1 lead. Biller had an RBI single in the frame.

Connecticut would score three more runs in the fourth inning to go up, 8-1. Lane cut the deficit to five with a low line drive down the left field line that cleared the fence and scored Tyler Cox, who had walked. The Huskies scored one in the seventh and two more in the eighth to close their scoring. The Pride added one more run in the ninth on Palmer's RBI double that chased home Camera, who drew a one-out walk.

Branden Brown (1-4) took the loss for Hofstra, allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits in three innings. Connecticut starter Charlie West (1-0) earned the win, allowing an unearned run on two hits with eight strikeouts over five innings.

Hofstra will continue its road trip against another set of Huskies when it opens a three-game series Friday at CAA rival Northeastern. Game time Friday is set for 2:30 p.m., though weather concerns may lead to changes. Check GoHofstra.com for schedule updates.
