Hofstra Drops Both Ends Of Doubleheader At Northeastern

Brookline, MA - Hofstra was swept in a doubleheader at Coastal Athletic Association-leading Northeastern Friday at Friedman Diamond. The Huskies won game one, 6-1, and then took game two by a 9-0 score.

Hofstra dropped to 12-23 overall and 3-8 in the CAA with the losses. Northeastern is 24-9 overall and 9-2 in league play.

In game one, Sean Hamilton turned in his best outing since returning from Tommy John surgery with a career-long six innings and a career-best seven strikeouts. He allowed three runs on three hits, with Jack Goodman's fourth-inning three-run home run accounting for the scoring. The Huskies would score three more runs in the eighth off reliever Christian Rasmussen to pull away. Goodman added an RBI single in the frame to finish with four RBIs in the game.

Hofstra had taken a 1-0 lead in the second as Sean Lane doubled and came around on a hard single to center off the bat of Dom Camera. Lane and Camera each finished with two hits in the game with the former collecting a pair of doubles.

Hamilton (0-2) took the loss, while Northeastern starter Will Jones (6-0) remained unblemished after allowing a run on four hits with seven strikeouts in six innings. Charlie Walker went the final three innings for his fourth save.

In the nightcap, the Huskies struck for four runs in the first inning on a pair of two-run home runs and never looked back. Harrison Feinberg hit the first home run, his 11th of the season, to left center. Two batters later, Matt Brinker hit his first of the season to left field. Northeastern added four more runs in the fifth inning with Goodman hitting another three-run home run.

That was more than enough for Northeastern starter Aiven Cabral (5-2), who held the Pride scoreless over six innings, allowing five hits with eight strikeouts. A trio of relievers went an inning each, allowing just two walks over that span.

Jackson Bauer (2-5) took the loss for Hofstra, allowing eight runs on six hits with five strikeouts over five innings. He pitched better than his line indicated as at one point he retired 11 Huskies in a row. Danny Kelleher (sixth) and Mike Sweeney (eighth) pitched clean innings of relief. Nick Gallello allowed a run in the seventh on a Feinberg single.

The teams will wrap up the series Sunday with a 1 p.m. start.

Notes
-Dylan Palmer had hits in each end of the doubleheader to extend his hitting streak to 18 games and his on-base streak to 32 games.
-Palmer also stole his 20th base of the season in the opener, becoming the first player in program history with three consecutive 20 stolen base seasons.
