Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse | | Stephen Gorchov

Jones Scores Five In Road Defeat

Fairfield, CT - Rory Jones scored a season-high five goals and Anthony Mollica had four points on a goal and three assists, but it wasn't enough as the Hofstra men's lacrosse team dropped a 14-10 road decision to Fairfield on Saturday afternoon at Rafferty Stadium.

It was the third hat trick of the season for Jones, who previously had a season-best four goals against Wagner. Mollica now has eight assists over his past two games after tallying five against Delaware.

The Pride saw its three-game win streak come to an end as they dropped to 7-3 overall and 3-1 in league play. Fairfield improved to 10-1 and 3-1 in CAA action.

Jones scored his first goal early in the second quarter to stop a game-opening 4-0 run by the Stags. Trailing 7-1, Trey Parkes and Jones helped the Pride close the gap to four in the second quarter.

The Pride would attempt to rally in the third quarter and a 3-0 spurt got them to within 10-6 with just under three minutes left in the stanza.

A goal from Jones less than a minute into the fourth quarter would make it 11-8, the closest it had been since early in the second quarter. That would be as close as the Pride would get, though, as Fairfield held off the furious Hofstra rally and earned the victory.

Joey DeYoung added a pair of goals for Hofstra, which also got three points (1 G, 2 A) from Trey Parkes and two assists from Trevor Natalie. Austin Clarke tallied three caused turnovers.

Shea Kennedy had 13 saves and a season-best five ground balls in the contest for the Pride.

Luke Okupski had a team-high four goals for Fairfield, which got four points (2 G, 2 A) from Keegan Lynch. Owen Hirsch made 12 saves for the Stags.

Hofstra is back in action next Saturday when it hosts Drexel at 1 p.m. For ticket information visit HofstraTickets.com. The game will air on MSG Network and FloCollege.
