Jones Tallies Hat Trick In Regular Season Finale

Hempstead, NY - Rory Jones had four points on three goals and an assist, while Shea Kennedy posted 12 saves in net, but the Hofstra men's lacrosse team dropped a low-scoring 9-7 decision to Towson on Saturday afternoon at James M. Shuart Stadium.

These same two teams will meet in the CAA Championship semifinals on Thursday at 4 p.m. The tournament is being hosted by Towson at Johnny Unitas Stadium.

Hofstra finishes the regular season with a record of 8-6 and 4-3 in CAA play. Towson improved to 9-5 and 7-0 in conference action.

Towson jumped out early to a 3-0 lead and held that advantage through the end of the first quarter. It was all Hofstra in the second quarter as Jones got it started and would finish off his hat trick with 8:17 left before halftime to make it a 4-3 lead for the Pride at the break.

The Pride opened up a 5-3 lead early in the third quarter before the Tigers tallied four straight to lead 7-5 at the 7:53 mark of the third quarter. Each team would add a goal in the final five-plus minutes of the third quarter as Towson took an 8-6 lead into the final 15 minutes. Towson pushed the lead back to three goals 37 seconds into the fourth quarter before Hofstra would get a goal from John Madsen with 7:01 showing on the clock. That would be as close as the Pride would get, though, as the Tigers held on for the win.

Anthony Mollica and John Madsen each added a goal and an assist for the Pride in the contest. Benjamin Niesman won 12-17 face-offs and had six ground balls for Hofstra.

Roran Fitzpatrick tallied three points on two goals and an assist for Towson, which also got two goals from Sam Morin. Joe Petro had five ground balls for the Tigers.

The entire CAA Championship will air on LacrosseTV.

NOTES
- Hofstra is now 29-27 all-time against Towson.
- The hat trick was the fourth of the season for Jones and the ninth of his career.
- With 12 saves, Kennedy has reached double figures in saves nine times this season.
