Hofstra Doubled Up By NJIT

Hempstead, NY - Jake Harring and Trent Jenks each hit their first career home runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, but Hofstra could not overcome a nine-run deficit in what became a 12-6 loss to NJIT Wednesday at University Field. Hofstra dropped to 13-28 with the loss, while the Highlanders saw their record even at 19-19.

The Pride trailed 4-3 after two innings before NJIT scored eight runs over the middle three innings to take a 12-3 lead. The Highlanders did most of their damage in a five-run fifth highlighted by a two-run home run from Mason Wolf.

Harring, who also had a sacrifice fly in the game, led off the bottom of the ninth with a solo home run to right center. Three batters later, Jenks hit his first home run over the right field fence to close out the scoring. Jenks had come in as a defensive replacement in the seventh inning and went 2-2.

Sean Lane and Dom Camera each went 1-3 with an RBI for the Pride, while CJ Griggs added a double in two at-bats.

Cole Campbell went 4-5 with a triple for NJIT, while Wolf was 3-5 with three RBIs. Michael Doyle also had three hits and three RBIs for the visitors. Reliever Brandon Peterson (4-2) was credited with the win after a scoreless 1 ⅓ innings appearance. Noah Pins went the final four innings for the save.
