Hofstra Falls To Stony Brook In Series Finale

Hempstead, NY - John Rizzo threw a complete game two-hitter and Stony Brook broke open a 1-0 game with a nine-run seventh inning to post a 10-0 victory over Hofstra Sunday at University Field. The win gave the Seawolves a sweep of the three-game Coastal Athletic Association series.

Hofstra dropped to 13-27 overall and 3-12 in the CAA with the loss, while Stony Brook improved to 20-16 overall and 8-7 in league play.

The Seawolves scored the only run they would need in the third inning as Erik Paulsen hit a two-out single and Nico Azpilcueta followed with a run-scoring double off the wall in left field.

Hofstra starter Tristan Nemjo (1-5) cruised through the first six innings, allowing just the one run on five hits with four strikeouts. But he ran into trouble in the seventh, allowing eight hits and eight runs. Brett Davino had a two-run home run to start the scoring and would add an RBI double later in the frame. Paulsen also had a two-run double in the inning.

Rizzo (4-2) allowed singles to CJ Griggs and Dom Camera, while walking one. The junior righty added three strikeouts.

Hofstra returns to action Wednesday at home against NJIT. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
