Late Hofstra Rally Lifts Pride Over St. John's

Queens, NY - Hofstra scored six runs in the top of the eighth inning, capped off by a two-run single from Michael Craig, and held on for a 7-6 victory over St. John's Tuesday at Jack Kaiser Stadium. The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Pride. Hofstra moved to 13-24 with the win, while St. John's slipped to 19-14 and saw a seven-game winning streak snapped.

Hofstra took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Dylan Palmer led off with a triple and came in on a ground out from Craig. The Red Storm tied it in the second inning and then added for more runs in the third to build a 5-1 lead.

The score remained that way until the eighth when the Pride offense erupted. Luke Masiuk had a two-run double that made it a 5-3 game. Four batters later, Michael Brown blooped a single into center that drove in one run. Pinch-hitter Sean Lane followed with a sacrifice fly to tie the game. Following a hit by pitch that loaded the bases, Craig laced a single up the middle that brought home two runs.

St. John's would get one run back in their half of the inning as Jon LeGrande tripled and scored on Jackson Tucker's sacrifice fly. The Red Storm had the tying run in scoring position in the ninth after a leadoff double from Jared Beebe, but Sanderoff was able to pitch around the trouble to secure the win.

Trent Jenks (2-1) earned the win with 1 ⅔ innings of relief. He allowed one run on one hit with two strikeouts. Tanner Sanderoff picked up his second save after going the final 1 ⅓ innings.

Brown had three hits for the Pride, while Palmer, Craig, Masiuk, and CJ Griggs had two hits apiece. Craig added three RBIs on the day with Masiuk knocking in a pair.

Sam Mettert (1-2) took the loss after allowing Hofstra's final three runs in the eighth.
