Hofstra Drops Road Game At Rutgers

Piscataway, NJ - Dylan Palmer had four hits and Bryce Curry added three in Hofstra's 12-7 loss at Rutgers Tuesday night. The duo combined for seven of the Pride's 14 hits on the night.

Hofstra (10-18) fell behind 4-0 after two innings before a three-run third made it a one-run game. Dom Camera led off the inning with an infield single and went to third on a double from Palmer. Tyler Cox, who had a pair of hits, drove in both runners with a single and would later score on a Michael Craig base hit.

Rutgers would score six runs over its next four turns at bat to open up a 10-3 lead. The Pride would put up another three runs in the seventh to cut the deficit to four, 10-6. Singles from Palmer and Cox had runners on the corners for Tyler Castrataro, who drove in one run with a single and sent Cox to third. Following a steal of second, Sean Lane drove in Cox with a sac fly that also advanced Castrataro to third. The freshman left fielder would score on a wild pitch to close the scoring in the frame.

The Scarlet Knights tacked on a pair of runs in the eighth before the Pride pushed one across in the ninth on a sacrifice fly from Craig.

Palmer scored two runs to go along with his four hits. Curry had two doubles and a single, while Castrataro had a pair of hits as well. Cox and Craig each drove in two.

Hofstra starter Branden Brown (1-3) took the loss after allowing five runs over three innings. Rutgers reliever Charles Batista (1-0) was credited with the win following a scoreless inning.

Trevor Cohen had four RBIs to pace the Scarlet Knights offense, which saw seven of the nine starters record two hits.

The Pride is back in action Wednesday at home against Columbia. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.

Notes:
-Palmer notched his ninth career four-hit game and first of the season.
-Curry's three hits were a season-high.
