Hofstra Tripped Up By Great Danes

Hempstead, NY - Tyler Castrataro and Luke Masiuk each had three-hit games, and Trenton Snyder drove in three runs with a triple in Hofstra's 10-8 loss to UAlbany. The Great Danes snapped an 8-8 tie in the eighth inning and then added an insurance run in the top of the ninth.

Hofstra dropped to 4-9 overall with its second consecutive loss. UAlbany improved to 5-5 with their fourth win in a row.

The Pride took a 6-4 lead in the third inning, scoring four times with Snyder's bases-clearing triple the big blow in the inning. The Great Danes tied the game in the sixth and took an 8-6 lead in the seventh. The Pride showed their resilience once again, scoring twice in the bottom of the frame to knot the score. Tyler Cox led off the inning with a walk and went to third on Masiuk's second double of the afternoon. Bryce Curry knocked in Cox with a groundout and later in the inning, with runners on the corners, the Pride executed a double steal. Pinch runner Jack Fanning deliberately got caught in a rundown between first and second, while Masiuk broke for home. The throw to the plate was not in time and Fanning advanced to second.

The Great Danes went ahead to stay in the eighth inning as pinch hitter Logan Morris singled in Michael Maggio with the go ahead run. UAlbany tacked on a run in the ninth on an RBI groundout from Luke Myers.

Myers drove in two runs for the Great Danes with Maggio, Jared Toby, Thomas McElwee, and Cooper Loyal each collecting a pair of hits. Tyler Kneller (1-0) picked up the win in relief, allowing two runs on three hits over four innings. Alex Enea pitched two scoreless innings for his first save.

Trent Jenks (1-1) took the loss for Hofstra, allowing four runs on five hits over 2 ⅔ innings.

The teams conclude the series Sunday with a 12 p.m. start.
