Cox Homers Twice, Palmer Collects 200th Career Hit In Series Finale

Williamsburg, VA - Tyler Cox hit two home runs, Tyler Castrataro hit one, and Dylan Palmer recorded his 200th career hit in the game, but Jamie Laskofski's two-run single in the bottom of the ninth capped a three-run rally to give William & Mary a 16-15 Coastal Athletic Association victory over Hofstra at Plumeri Park Sunday afternoon. The win gave the Tribe a series sweep over the Pride.

Hofstra dropped to 10-17 overall and 2-4 in the CAA with the loss. The Tribe improved to 10-17 overall and 4-2 in league action with the win.

Cox and Castrataro went back-to-back in the top of the first, a two-run shot for the former and a solo shot for the latter, to stake Hofstra to a 3-0 lead. Leading 3-2 in the third, Cox added a second two-run blast to extend the Hofstra lead to 5-2.

Hofstra would lead 6-3 in the fifth before a five-run inning for the Tribe gave the hosts an 8-6 lead. The Pride got a run back in the sixth but another five-run inning for William & Mary in the seventh seemingly broke the game open.

However, the Pride still had fight left in them and staged a rally in the eighth. Palmer led off with a walk and went to third on a single from Michael Brown. A balk advanced both runners and Luke Masiuk followed with an opposite field double to score Brown to cut the deficit to four. Cox followed with a double of his own to make it a 13-10 game. After loading the bases, Michael Craig delivered a two-run single and, two batters later, Palmer doubled down the left field line to put Hofstra back on top, 14-13. Brown followed with a double of his own for a two-run advantage. The Pride loaded the bases again but Nick Lottchea came on to get the final out.

The Tribe threatened in the eighth with runners on second and third and one out. But Castrataro made a diving catch on a sinking line drive to left and was able to double off the Tribe runner at second base. Then in the ninth, the Tribe got back-to-back singles before a fielder's choice and an error scored a run. Then with runners on second and third, Laskofski blooped a single into no man's land behind second base that drove in the tying and winning runs.

Tanner Sanderoff (1-2) took the loss, while Connor Kolarov (1-0) picked up the win.

Hofstra returns to action Tuesday night at Rutgers. First pitch is at 6 p.m.
