Hofstra Tripped Up In Extra Innings At Monmouth

West Long Branch, NJ- Sean Lane homered leading off the top of the 10th inning to give Hofstra an 11-10 lead but Monmouth scored twice in the bottom of the inning, with the winning run scoring on a wild pitch, to take a 12-11 victory Sunday at MU Baseball Stadium. The win salvaged the final game of the Coastal Athletic Association series for the Hawks.

Hofstra slipped to 9-14 overall and 2-1 in the CAA with the loss. Monmouth is 10-13 overall and 1-2 in league play.

The Pride held a 10-6 lead going into the bottom of the ninth. However, Chris Andrews and Nick Lovarco hit two-run home runs to send the game into extra innings. Lane, who had entered the game as a defensive replacement in the ninth, tok the first pitch he saw over the centerfield fence in the 10th to put the Pride back on top. In Monmouth's turn at bat, Harry Padden drew a leadoff walk from Tyler Castrataro (0-1) and went to second on an infield out. Following a strikeout for the second out, Andrews hit an RBI single and took second on the throw home. Andrews would advance to third on a wild pitch and, following a walk to Chris Walsh, another wild pitch allowed him to come home with the winning run.

Dylan Palmer had a three-hit game for the Pride, while Tyler Cox collected two hits and four RBIs. Michael Craig and Mike Sweeney had a pair of hits, while Nick Biddle drove in two runs and scored three times.

Castrataro allowed two runs on a hit and two walks to suffer the loss. Jacob Ciccone (1-0) retired the only batter he faced in the 10th to earn the win. Andrews went 4-5 with four RBIs for Monmouth.

Hofstra returns to action Tuesday when it hosts Seton Hall at 3 p.m.
