Pride Moves To 2-0 In CAA Play With Road Win

West Long Branch, NJ - Shea Kennedy posted a career-high 17 saves and the Pride got five points (3 G, 2 A) from Trevor Natalie as the Hofstra men's lacrosse team picked up a huge CAA road win, 15-9, over Monmouth on Saturday afternoon at Kessler Stadium. Hofstra is 2-0 in CAA play for the first time since the 2017 season. 

Kennedy's 17 saves are the most for a Pride player since Sean Henderson had 19 against St. John's on February 13, 2024. 

Hofstra was aided offensively by four-point afternoons from John Madsen (3 G, 1 A) and Trey Parkes (2 G, 2 A). 

Hofstra moved to 6-2 overall and the 2-0 league record with the win. Monmouth dropped to 3-6 and 0-2 in CAA action.

The Pride opened up an early 3-0 advantage, including two goals from Madsen, to lead by three with 6:45 left in the opening quarter. Monmouth battled back to within one later in the quarter but then Hofstra took over. The Pride used a 5-0 run spanning the first and second quarter to take a commanding 8-2 lead with 5:08 left before halftime following a goal from Anthony Mollica

After leading by six at the break, Hofstra pushed the lead to seven with 4:07 left in the third quarter as Rory Jones made it 12-5 in favor of the Pride. The Hawks got the deficit to four early in the fourth quarter but Hofstra left no doubt and scored three of the final four goals in the game to account for the final margin.

Benjamin Niesman won a career-high 14 face-offs and picked up a career and team-high six ground balls. Blake Cooling tied Niesman for team-high honors with his career-high six ground balls. Austin Clarke scored his first career goal and established new career-highs in ground balls and caused turnovers with four and three, respectively. 

Brendan Dundas had seven points on three goals and four assists for Monmouth, while Luke Cole added three points on two goals and an assist.

NOTES
- Today marked the fifth all-time meeting between Hofstra and Monmouth in men's lacrosse. The Pride has won all five meetings and the three encounters since the teams became CAA rivals. 
- Kennedy's previous career-high in saves was 13 against Binghamton on March 1 of this season. 
- Natlie's hat trick was his fourth this season (also fourth of career) and Madsen's hat trick was his fifth this season and 18th of his career. 
- Kennedy tallied 10 or more saves for the third time this season. 
- Hofstra picked up a season-high 42 ground balls.
