Lane, Cox Homer In Loss To Fordham

Hempstead, NY - Sean Lane and Tyler Cox homered for Hofstra in a 5-2 loss to Fordham Wednesday at University Field. The pair combined for five of Hofstra's nine hits on the day.

The loss moved Hofstra's record to 7-13 on the season, while Fordham upped its mark to 8-13.

The Rams put up a pair of runs in the third inning as Tommy Markey laced an RBI double down the right field line and later scored on a wild pitch. Lane cut the deficit in half in the fourth inning with his fourth home run of the season and third in as many games.

However, Fordham would pull away with two more runs in the fifth, one on a Matt Dieguez RBI single and the other when Tommy McAndrews was hit by a Branden Brown pitch with the bases loaded. McAndrews would add another RBI in the eighth following a solo home run.

Cox led off the Hofstra ninth with a solo shot to right center and the Pride put another runner on before Fordham pitcher Koen Smith got the final out.

Lane finished the day 3-4, while Cox was 2-4. Michael Heyman (0-1) started and allowed two runs on two hits over three innings.

Ameer Hasan (1-0) got the win for the Rams, allowing one run on six hits over 5 ⅔ innings.

Hofstra returns to action Friday when it begins Coastal Athletic Association play at Monmouth. First pitch is at 3 p.m.

Notes:
-Cox's home run was his third of the season.
