Big Ninth Inning Gives Hofstra The Win Over Kent State

Kent, OH - Hofsta scored six runs in the top of the ninth inning to snap an 11-11 tie and pick up a 17-11 victory over Kent State Saturday at Olga Mural Field at Schoonover Stadium. The win evened the three-game series at one game apiece heading into Sunday's finale.

Hofstra moved to 7-11 with the win, while the Golden Flashes slipped to 7-9 with the loss. Michael Brown broke the tie with a two-run single. Luke Masiuk added an RBI double and Dom Camera put the game out of reach with a three-run double.  

The Pride built an 11-3 lead in the sixth inning before the Golden Flashes battled back to tie the score. Kent State scored twice in the sixth and seventh, and then had a four-run eighth. Reliever Danny Kelleher (1-0) came on to escape a bases loaded jam in the inning and then pitched a scoreless ninth to notch the win. 

Every Hofstra starter had at least one hit in the Pride's 20-hit afternoon. Brown, Dylan Palmer, Tyler Castrataro, and Michael Craig each picked up three hits, while Camera, Tyler Cox, and Masiuk each had two hits. Camera paced the Pride with five RBIs with Brown adding four. Sean Lane had three RBIs, all coming on a first inning home run. 

Kent State's Peyton Cariaco (0-1) allowed all six runs in the ninth inning. Sawyer Solitaria and Hunter Klotz each had three RBIs for the Golden Flashes.

The teams will conclude the series Sunday at 12 p.m.

Notes:
-Camera's five RBIs are a career-high.
-Hofstra's 20 hits were a season-best.
-Hofstra starter Tristan Nemjo allowed three runs (2 earned) on five hits in 4 â…“ innings.
-The Pride hit a season-high six doubles. 
-Brown extended his hitting streak to 10 and Castrataro's is now at nine.
