Hofstra Bats Carry Pride Past FDU

Teaneck, NJ - Luke Masiuk homered twice and Tyler Castrataro added a blast of his own in Hofstra's 14-6 victory over FDU Wednesday at the Naimoli Complex. Hofstra had seven extra-base hits in the game. The Pride moved to 6-10 with the win, while the Knights dropped to 2-15.

Masiuk started a four-run second inning with a solo shot to left. Michael Craig and Trenton Snyder each drove in runs in the inning, while Dylan Palmer capped the inning with a run-scoring triple. Masiuk, who had two grand slams this past Sunday, added his second home run of the game in the third, a two-run shot to extend the Hofstra lead to 6-0. CJ Griggs, who had three hits on the day, drove in a run in the fourth with a single for a 7-0 lead. 

Castrataro drilled a three-run home run in the fifth to make it a 10-1 game. The Pride put together another four-run inning in the sixth. Aidan Gallgher drove in a run with a bases loaded walk, Palmer followed with a two-run double, and Michael Brown added an RBI double of his own for a 14-1 lead. 

Castrataro also started the game on the mound and went two scoreless innings. Branden Brown (1-2) followed with 3 â…“ innings of relief and was credited with the win. The junior allowed four runs on three hits and struck out four batters. Brayden Gregg (2 â…“) and Nick Gallello (1 â…“) followed Brown out of the pen.

James Vlastaris (0-1) took the loss after allowing six runs on eight hits over three innings. Jonathan Gomez had two of FDU's six hits. 

Hofstra returns to action Friday at Kent State. Game time is set for 3 p.m.

Notes:
-Palmer's two hits extended his hitting streak to 13 games.
-Brown's two hits extended his hitting streak to eight games.  
-Bryce Curry had two hits, joining Griggs, Palmer, Michael Brown, and Masiuk with multiple hits. 
-Hofstra is 19-13 all-time versus FDU.
