Hofstra Runs Past Binghamton

Hempstead, NY - Shea Kennedy made a career-high 13 saves to lead a strong defensive effort, while John Madsen, Trevor Natalie, and Rory Jones each recorded hat tricks in Hofstra's 15-5 victory over Binghamton Saturday at James M. Shuart Stadium. The win was Hofstra's second in a row and moved the Pride's record to 4-1 on the season. 

Hofstra scored the first three goals of the game with Natalie notching a pair of unassisted tallies around a Madsen goal from Anthony Mollica. After the Bearcats got on the board, the Pride ran off three more goals to take a 6-1 lead with 1:45 to go in the opening quarter. Jones scored back-to-back goals with Mollica and Natalie notching assists. Natalie then completed his hat trick off a feed from Trey Parkes to cap the run. Following a Binghamton goal with just under a minute to play, Jones finished up his hat trick from Parkes with 23 seconds to go. 

Hofstra got second quarter goals from Natalie, Joey DeYoung, and Madsen and led 10-3 at the break. The second half featured less scoring, with Drew Bogardus and Mollica notching goals in the third quarter, and Madsen, Blake Cooling, and Gerard Kane collecting fourth quarter goals. 

Kennedy made eight of his 13 saves in the second half as the Pride limited the Bearcats to single goals in each of the final three quarters. The red-shirt freshman keeper also picked up a pair of ground balls and had a caused turnover. 

Natalie finished with a career-high four goals and an assist, while Madsen tallied three goals and an assist. Jones had three goals and Mollica chipped in a goal and a career-best three assists. Parkes matched his career-high with three assists. Benjamin Niesman had five ground balls, while Cole Myers picked up four. 

Andrew Girolamo and Liam Ferris each had a pair of goals for Binghamton. Ferris also had four ground balls, as did Anthony Billello and Nolan Sharkey. Taylor Garrett played the final 45 minutes in goal and had five saves. Starter Connor Winters stopped three shots in the first quarter.

Hofstra returns to action next Saturday, March 8, at North Carolina. Face-off is scheduled for 11 a.m.

-Hofstra is 4-1 all-time against Binghamton.
-Hofstra held a 45-29 shot advantage. 
-The Pride was 3-7 on extra-man opportunities. 
-John Hicks picked up his first career point with an assist on Kane's goal.
