Davis' 24 Not Enough As Stony Brook Slips Past Hofstra

Hempstead, NY - Cruz Davis scored a team-high 24 points in Hofstra's 80-75 Coastal Athletic Association loss to Stony Brook Saturday evening at the sold out David S.Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex.

Davis, who was 9-13 from the floor and 4-6 from three-point range, added four assists and two steals in the contest. Jean Aranguren had 17 points and a career-high tying nine assists, while Michael Graham chipped in with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Hofstra slipped to 12-13 overall and 4-8 in the CAA with its third consecutive loss. Stony Brook improved to 6-19 overall and 2-10 in league play with the win.

In a first half that saw six lead changes and five tied scores, Hofstra managed a 33-31 lead at the intermission thanks to a Davis layup with just under a minute remaining. The Pride had erased a five-point deficit earlier in the half and scored the final five points of the stanza with Eric Parnell's three-pointer knotting the score at 31.

Stony Brook opened the second half with a three-pointer from Collin O'Connor to take a 34-33 lead. Aranguren and Graham scored back-to-back baskets for the Pride to put the Pride back on top, 37-34 with 18:16 remaining. The lead would grow to six points with 13:38 following a free throw from Aranguren. A four point-play from Stony Brook's CJ Luster made it a 48-46 game in favor of the Pride with 12:34 to play. Leading 50-48, Parnell gave Hofstra a bit more breathing room with another three-pointer with 10:34 remaining. Two minutes later, Davis drained a three-pointer to give the Pride a 59-52 lead. The seven point advantage matched their largest lead of the game up until that point. A Silas Sunday free throw made it an eight-point lead, 60-52, with 6:52 remaining. The Seawolves responded with a 17-5 run to take a 69-65 lead with 1:58 to play. Luster (9) and Snoddy (5) combined for 14 points in the spurt. The Pride would get as close as one, 75-74, on Davis's three-pointer with 26 second to go, but Luster and Snoddy combined to hit five of six free throws down the stretch to secure the win.

Snoddy led all scorers with 27 points and added a game-high 12 rebounds as well. Luster added 26 points.
