Cruz Davis led all scorers with 22 points in the contest, but William & Mary's Chase Lowe scored the game-winner with four seconds remaining as the Hofstra men's basketball team dropped a heartbreaking 61-60 decision to the Tribe on Thursday evening at Kaplan Arena.
Hofstra fell to 12-14 and 4-9 in conference play with the loss, while William & Mary improved to 15-11 and 9-4 in CAA action.
The Pride took a one-point lead into the halftime break, 34-33, as Hofstra scored the final 11 points of the opening stanza.
The second half was tight throughout with neither team able to take more than a five-point lead.
Hofstra would trail by three, 59-56, with 1:36 left before back-to-back buckets from
TJ Gadsden and
Jean Aranguren put the Pride in front by one with 13 seconds remaining. That would set up the contest for Lowe's game-winner which was followed by a turnover by Hofstra on its final possession.
Gadsden chipped in with eight points, three rebounds, and three assists for the Pride, which also got seven points, eight rebounds, and four assists from Aranguren.
Lowe led WIlliam & Mary with 15 points with Gabe Dorsey adding 14 points and six rebounds.
Hofstra is back in action on Saturday when it travels to Hampton for a 2 p.m. contest. That game will air on FloCollege.
NOTES
- Hofstra is 29-17 all-time against William & Mary. The Tribe swept the season series.
- Davis scored in double figures for the 17th time this season, led Hofstra in scoring for the 11th time this season, and tallied 20 or more points in a game for the eighth time in 2024-25.
