Pride Sweeps Blue Hens In Final Regular Season Meetings As Conference Rivals

Newark, DE - In a series that has spanned decades and 105 meetings, the final regular season meeting as conference rivals went the Pride's way as the Hofstra men's basketball team defeated Delaware, 78-65, on Saturday afternoon at the Bob Carpenter Center. Delaware is departing the CAA after this season for Conference USA.

Cruz Davis tied his career-high with 28 points in the game and was aided by a career day from Khalil Farmer, who had a career-high 19 points for the Pride.

With the win, Hofstra improved to 13-16 and 5-11 in conference play. The victory ended a six-game losing streak for the Pride. Delaware dropped to 12-17 and 5-11 in CAA action.

Leading 9-7 early on, the Pride used a 13-2 run to take a 22-9 lead with 11:33 left in the opening stanza following a three-pointer from Davis. The lead grew to as many as 15 in the first half before Delaware closed the first half on a 16-2 run to close the Pride lead to just one at the break.

With Hofstra holding a narrow 37-35 lead in the first minute of the second half, the Pride got some breathing room and used an 11-2 run to lead 48-37 with 16:36 remaining after another big Davis bucket.

That proved to be enough momentum for the Pride as Hofstra kept Delaware at bay the entirety of the second half. The Blue Hens did get to within six with just over three minutes left before Hofstra scored the final seven points of the game to account for the final margin.

Eric Parnell chipped in nicely with 10 points for Hofstra. Davis added five rebounds and four assists, while Farmer added a career-high seven rebounds and a career-high-tying three assists. German Plotnikov chipped in with eight points and Jean Aranguren had six points and six assists.

Niels Lane had 24 points and 10 rebounds for Delaware, which also got 12 points from Izaiah Pasha.

Hofstra is back in action on Thursday when it travels east to face Stony Brook. That game will start at 7 p.m. and air on FloCollege
