Hofstra Rally Comes Up Short Versus Siena

Hempstead, NY - Trevor Natalie's fourth quarter goal, his second of the game, pulled Hofstra within four (14-10), but Siena scored three of the last four as the Pride could not overcome an early deficit in a 17-11 loss Friday afternoon at James M. Shuart Stadium. Hofstra spotted the Saints a seven-goal lead in the first quarter.

John Madsen led Hofstra (2-1) with three goals and an assist, while Drew Bogardus added two goals and two assists. Anthony Mollica had a pair of goals as well with Trey Parkes contributing three assists.

Six different Siena (1-1) players scored during the Saints seven-goal run to open the game. Gavin Blenk had two goals in the quarter, while Ryan McCarthy had a goal and three assists.

Natalie would score the Pride's first goal with 1:06 remaining in the first as he converted a pass from Jones for his sixth of the year. Bogardus took a pass from Jones 14 seconds into the second quarter for a man-up goal to make it a 7-2 game. The Saints responded with four unanswered goals and took a 12-3 lead into halftime.

Hofstra outscored the Saints, 4-2 in the third quarter and then started the fourth quarter with three straight goals, two from Madsen and one from Natalie to make it 14-10 with 11:49 to play. A little over three minutes later, Siena's Pratt Reynolds notched his fourth goal to put the Saints back up by five. Bogardus and Madsen combined on a goal right off the ensuing faceoff to keep the Pride in striking distance. However, Siena would score the next two goals and notch their first win of the season.

Reynolds paced the Siena offense with four goals, while McCarthy had two goals and five assists and Conor Hufnagel added two goals and four assists. Blenk chipped in with three goals.

Siena keeper Andrew Arcuri made 15 saves, while the Hofstra tandem of Shea Kennedy (24:44) and Sean Henderson (35:16) each made six stops.

The Pride returns to action on Saturday, February 22 at St. John's. Game time in Queens is set for 1 p.m.
