Hofstra Drops Season Opener At No. 2 Tennessee

Knoxville, TN - Preseason All-American Liam Doyle allowed one hit and struck out 11 batters over five innings and the second-ranked Volunteers offense put up 15 runs in a 15-0 seven-inning victory over Hofstra in the season opener for both teams at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. Dylan Palmer had the lone Hofstra hit, a single leading off the fourth inning.

The defending National Champions scored in five of their six turns at bat and led 8-0 after four innings. The Volunteers then had a seven-run sixth inning to put the run rule in effect.

Dean Curley, Hunter High, and Andrew Fisher homered for Tennessee, which led the nation in 2024 with 184 long balls. Doyle (1-0) a transfer from Ole Miss, did not walk a batter and at one point recorded eight consecutive strikeouts.

Jackson Bauer (0-1) started for Hofstra and allowed eight runs on 10 hits over four innings.

The series continues Saturday with a new start time of 2 p.m. The game was moved due to inclement weather forecasted for Knoxville later in the day.

Notes:
-This was the first meeting between Hofstra and Tennessee.
