Offense, Defense Shine In Hofstra's Season-Opening Win At Iona

New Rochelle, NY - Hofstra scored 15 unanswered goals to close the game and got hat tricks from four players - Trey Parkes, Drew Bogardus, John Madsen, and Anthony Mollica - in a 20-2 win over Iona at Mazzella Field Saturday afternoon in the 2025 season opener for both teams. In addition to its offensive explosion, Hofstra's defensive effort limited the Gaels to 15 shots overall and just nine over the final three quarters.

Mollica finished with career-highs in goals (4), assists (2), and points (6) to lead the Pride. Parkes notched his first career hat trick and added an assist to set a new personal best with four points. Bogardus made his college debut memorable with his three-goal, one-assist performance, while Madsen's three goals were his 14th career hat trick. Defensively, goalkeeper Sean Henderson made five saves in the opening half, while Shea Kennedy had two saves in 30 minutes in his collegiate debut. Cole Myers won 13 of 17 faceoffs and scooped up seven ground balls. Madsen added four ground balls, while Bogardus recorded a pair of caused turnovers.

After giving up the opening goal to Iona, Hofstra responded with five unanswered goals, including two from Parkes to take a 5-1 lead. After the Gaels added a second goal, the Pride scored three more times to lead, 8-2, following a man-up goal from Rory Jones a little over midway through the second quarter. Hofstra added two more goals, one from Trevor Natalie and one from Aaron Siebold, to take a 10-2 advantage into halftime.

The Pride would extend its scoring run to 10 with a 5-0 third quarter. Mollica and Madsen each had a pair of goals in the quarter, while Joey DeYoung notched his first career goal. The fourth quarter was a repeat of the third with the Pride once again tallying five goals, while allowing none. Bogardus had two goals, while DeYoung added his second, Madsen his third and Gerard Kane his first.
