Thomas Sets New Shot Put Program Record As Pride Open Indoor Track Season

Boston, MA / Staten Island, NY - The Hofstra women's track and field team began the indoor track season at the TRACK at New Balance's Early Bird Invitational and St. John's Youree Spence-Garcia Invitational on Saturday, December 6, with Sharyn-Nicole Thomas breaking her own program record in the women's shot put event in Staten Island.

Thomas recorded a throw of 11.00m to best the 9.77m record she set last season at the Vassar Spring Invite. She came in 12th place in the shot put event out of the 25-competitor field, while Sarah Purschke recorded a throw of 7.97m to place 20th.

Isabella Gerena and Allison Reid represented the Pride in Boston in the 5000m race at the TRACK at New Balance Early Bird Invitational. Gerena finished with a time of 18:08.08 to place 16th out of the 41-runner field, while Reid was 28th with a time of 18:57.69.

Hannah Donzella was Hofstra's top finisher at the Youree Spence-Garcia Invitational, with her ninth place finish and time of 10:50.10 in the 3000m race. Macy Neider was 10th out of the 33-runner field with a time of 10:54.26, Avery Brawner was 14th (11:11.43), Natalie Campisi was 15th (11:11.77), Sophia Briggs was 17th (11:12.44), Melanie Bogen was 21st (11:31.72), and Samantha Szabo was 23rd at 11:37.10. 

Tori Bien led the Pride in the 1000m race with her 13th place finish and time of 3:15.21, while Brielle Isernia finished one place behind in 3:17.46. Julia Mills was 19th (3:29.48), Eva Mathew was 21st (3:34.63), and Amanda Hinojos finished the 1000m race in 22nd place with a time of 3:39.33. 

Lilian Brine competed in the 60m dash and finished in 34th place out of the 55-runner field with a time of 8.45.

The Hofstra women's track and field team return to action on Friday, December 12, for the Wagner Seahawk Shootout from the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, New York.
