Domination; Pride Rolls In CAA Opener To Win Fifth Straight

Hempstead, NY - Cruz Davis had 22 points, seven assists, and five rebounds in another outstanding effort to lead four players in double figures as the Hofstra men's basketball team rolled to an 86-72 victory over Campbell in the Pride's CAA opener on Monday evening at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex.

Joshua DeCady tied his career-high with 15 points and Victory Onuetu tied his career-high with 12 rebounds in the game.

An early four-point deficit was quickly erased by Hofstra as the Pride turned an 11-7 Campbell lead into a 28-15 advantage with a 21-4 run that culminated with a thunderous dunk from Davis with 8:20 left before halftime. Leading by nine with 2:18 left in the half, the Pride closed the stanza on an 11-2 run to take an 18-point lead at the break.

A three-pointer from Preston Edmead in the opening seconds of the second half pushed the lead to 21 and Hofstra cruised from there. Back-to-back buckets from Onuetu would give the Pride its largest lead of the contest at 23, 60-37, with 14:07 remaining in regulation. Hofstra was never seriously challenged the rest of the way in making the statement in its conference opener.

Edmead was also in double figures as he added 16 points, while Jaeden Roberts chipped in with 14 points in 16 minutes of action.

Jeremiah Johnson led Campbell with 25 points, while Dovydas Butka added 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Camels.

Hofstra heads on the road for its next two games, beginning with a game in Philadelphia against Drexel on Saturday at 2 p.m.
