Hempstead, NY -
Izadora Stedile had a season-high 26 kills and
Beatriz Braga added a season-best 22 kills, but it wasn't enough as the Hofstra volleyball team dropped a thrilling five-set affair with Towson on Saturday afternoon at the David S. Mack Physical Education Center. The loss ended Hofstra's 10-match win streak, which was the longest of the season and the 10th-longest in program history. The Pride also saw its 10-match home court win streak come to an end. That streak ranked as the ninth-longest in the nation.
It was the second straight five-set match between the teams and the fourth time in the last five meetings dating back to the 2023 season that the teams have gone the distance.
Hofstra dropped to 19-3 overall and 11-3 in CAA play with the loss. Towson improved to 21-6 and 12-4 in conference action. Set scores were 25-23, 20-25, 25-21, 16-25, and 15-11 in favor of the Tigers.
As the Pride did on Friday, Hofstra captured the fourth set to send the match to a decisive fifth set. In that fourth set, Hofstra hit at a .433 clip, its highest of the contest, to knot the match at two sets each. It wasn't to be, though, as Towson captured the fifth and final set to earn the win.
Nina Jioshvili-Ravva added 46 assists and seven digs, while
Nil Kayaalp posted 21 digs in the match. Stedile had 14 digs as well to tally her team-leading 14th double-double of the season.
Lilia Duczek added four kills and eight blocks.
Erin Brothers had 14 kills and four blocks for Towson, which also got 14 kills and 12 digs from Taylor Pagan.
Hofstra will return to action on Friday when it travels to Northeastern for a 1 p.m. match.
