Edmead Shines In Road Defeat

New Rochelle, NY - Freshman Preston Edmead had another outstanding game with 18 points and six assists in the Pride's 81-73 loss to Iona on Friday evening at the Hynes Athletics Center.

The loss dropped Hofstra to 0-2 this season, while Iona won its season opener.

It was all Gaels to start the game as Iona led 26-5 ten minutes into the contest. The Pride did manage to close the gap to 15 late in the first half before the home team took a 17-point lead into the break.

The Pride came out fighting in the second stanza and a basket from Silas Sunday brought Hofstra to within 10, 46-36. The run was 9-2 in favor of the Pride.

A three-pointer from Biggie Patterson at the 13:52 mark got the deficit in single digits at 50-41.

Iona would score seven straight to push the lead back to 16 and end any hopes of a Pride comeback. The final minute of the game did see Hofstra make it a six-point game before the Gaels settled in for the eight-point victory.

Patterson tallied 16 points in the game, while Victory Onuetu added 13 points and a team-best nine rebounds.

C.J. Anthony led Iona with 25 points. Lamin Sabally chipped in with 11 points and eight rebounds.

Hofstra is back in action on Monday when it hosts Molloy at 11:30 a.m. in the program's annual "Class at the Court" game.
