Hofstra Picks Up Five-Set Win Over Towson; Extends Win Streak To 10

Hempstead, NY - In an epic battle between two of the top teams in the CAA, Hofstra came away with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Towson Friday evening at the David S. Mack Physical Education Center. Hofstra rallied from a two sets to one deficit to pick up its 10th consecutive victory. Set scores were 20-25, 25-17, 15-25, 30-28, 15-11.

Hofstra improved to 19-2 overall and 11-2 in the CAA with the victory. Towson dipped to 20-6 overall and 11-4 in league play. 

Beatriz Braga led Hofstra with 21 kills, matching her season-high, and added 11 digs, two blocks, and one service ace. She really stepped up in the final two sets, compiling 12 of her 21 kills. Izadora Stedile added 16 kills and tied for match-high with 19 digs. She had outstanding stats in sets two and four, notching five kills in seven attempts in the second and six kills in 12 attempts in the fourth. She did not have an error in either set. Emilly Nunes had a match-best eight blocks, while adding four kills. Constanza Perez Sain tallied eight kills and six blocks, while Nil Kayaalp had 16 digs. Nina Jioshvili-Ravva had 39 assists.

The match turned in the fourth set. Trailing 21-16 and coming out of a timeout, the Pride scored five unanswered points to tie the set. The teams then went back and forth, each staving off set points until a service error by the Tigers opened the door for Stedile to slam down the set point for the 30-28 win. 

Hofstra would lead by as many as four in the fifth set, 6-2, before the Tigers came back and eventually took an 11-10 lead. But two kills from Braga, a service ace from Jioshvili-Ravva, and back-to-back blocks from Perez Sain and Nunes sealed the match victory for the Pride. 

Ella Sanders had 15 kills to pace the Tigers. Sarah Callender added 14 kills and nine digs, while Sydney Stewart matched Stedile with 19 digs. 

The teams square off again Saturday with a 3 p.m. start time at the Mack Physical Education Center.  

Notes:
-Hofstra moved to 3-2 in five-set matches and has won back-to-back five-setters.
-Hofstra is 48-25 all-time against Towson.
-Stedile notched her 13th double-double of the season.
-Braga had her fourth double-double.
-Stedile moved into a tie with April Nick (2000-03) for 11th-place on the Hofstra career kills list with 1,124.
-Nunes's eight blocks were a season-high. 
-Perez Sain matched her season and career-high with six blocks.
